I’ve been hearing about plans for yet another new brewery in Asheville. The brewery, called The Altamont Brewing Co., is still a ways off. But if it comes together, it would continue to solidify Asheville’s status as Beer City USA and add even more life to the Haywood Road corridor in West Asheville, where it’s planned.

The owners have bought the property next to Ritrovo Pizzeria on Haywood Road, according to word on the street. The property is a former auto garage. The company’s registered agent is Henry B. Wiggins III, with an office address of 1042 Haywood Road, which is the address for the aforementioned property. The company has a mailing address of Evergreen Avenue in West Asheville.

The news comes as Asheville’s beer scene continues to expand. The Thirsty Monk plans to add a “nano-brewery” to its south Asheville location, and the Lexington Avenue Brewery is renovating space next to its current location to expand production. Last year, Pisgah Brewing added a big new outdoor performance stage, and Highland Brewing opened a big new tasting room (there’s an official grand opening event coming right up.).

In terms of West Asheville, the Altamont Brewing Co.’s location on Haywood Road would bring even more action to that busy corridor. I’ve already heard about plans to build a wine bar in an old furniture store near The Hop West location, and I recently wrote about plans to renovate the building that housed Pastabilities restaurant until Dec. 31. The plan there is to create a new restaurant/music venue.

It will be great to have another local brewery. The heart and soul of asheville comes through when you speak to the owners about their passion for beer. I can not wait to taste the enthusiasm and local love on draft.

    Good Luck Gentlemen!

We CAN'T WAIT for these guys to open! It's going to be so great for both of our places. We're already talking to Ben and his partner about teaming up and coordinating with them to make our little part of Haywood even more happening! And those guys are just awesome!

We are so excited for these guys, and are also trying to help them out as they go through the crazy process of getting the doors opened. It's going to be great!
