I don’t have all the details, but from what I’ve seen on Facebook and www.ashtoberfest.com, it looks like this year’s Asheville Zombiewalk will be held at Biltmore Square Mall. There are a number of related new events, including film screenings at Cinebarre at the mall.

The walk of the dead has grown each year for the past few years. What started as a small gathering in Montford ended up as a walk of thousands through the heart of downtown last year. Getting the required permits for that meant a lot of headaches for organizers, so hopefully this move to the mall makes things easier for them. Though I have to say I’ll miss not having the ghouls lurching through downtown.

Woah! Can you imagine zombies in a mall? lol
What a great throw back to Romero's "Dawn of the Dead".

Absolutely! We are doing the Dawn of the Dead Mall thing this year. We are showing Night of the Living Dead on a loop on the outside screen, Evil Dead and Zombieland, twice in Cinebarre. Kids events, several bands, opportunities for the most righteous "Zombies in the Mall" pics EVER!
We are working out some very interesting surprises for the Zombie Horde as it rounds each corner… hehehe.
And, Ann (above) is right. Anyone who gets the irony here, or understands Romero's statement with "Dawn" is genuinely going to love this year's event…

That's going to be genuinely creepy. Biltmore Square Mall already seems like the set of a horror movie.
