Asheville music lovers are buzzing today over the latest announcement: Moogfest is bringing Massive Attack, MGNT and Thievery Corporation to Asheville in October for an event that will honor music pioneer Bob Moog. It’s just the latest in a string of announcements about great music coming to Asheville. To wit:

-The Band of Horses just announced an Oct. 28 show at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. Tickets go on sale July 16.

-Primus with Gogol Bordello will play the Asheville Civic Center on Oct. 6

-Tegan and Sara will play The Orange Peel on Monday Aug 30

That’s all on top of news the past couple of weeks that The Pixies and Social Distortion were headed to town. The Biltmore Estate is bringing in Mary Chapin Carpenter, Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard, and the Steve Miller Band all later this month. And next weekend, we’ve got a full three-day weekend of Bele Chere, featuring great local bands playing the streets of Asheville for free.

The music just keeps piling up. Take tonight, for example. You have your choice of The Felice Brothers at the Grey Eagle, or Mates of State at the Orange Peel.
