Press release:

Beginning Tuesday, April 19, a new community discussion, performance and salon event kicks off in downtown Asheville, offering a community forum for shaping the future of our city, together.

The Asheville Salon Series is being sponsored by the organizers of TEDxNextGenerationAsheville and TEDxAsheville, two successful, volunteer-driven local events that share great local ideas, performances and product demonstrations. The salons provide a forum to inspire, educate and start conversation about developing great ideas and taking action on a local level, right here in Asheville.

Each salon covers a different topic and opens with a live performance followed by two pre-recorded TED talk videos (short video talks shared at TED, a global conference devoted to “ideas worth spreading”) and a live speaker or product demonstration. Everyone is invited to join a continued conversation and sharing of ideas directly following the talk.

The talk at the kickoff salon is from Cheri Torres, Ph.D. an educational and organizational consultant specializing in collaboration with 25 years experience in human development, experiential learning, and relational effectiveness . Torres will be presenting a talk entitled “Imagine Asheville: Designing Systems, Illuminating Connections and Creating Possibilities.”

Talks are open to all ages and the general public. (They’ll be held at the Masonic Temple on Broadway in Asheville.) Seating is limited. Admission is $5, payable at the door by cash or check only. The talks will be filmed by Filmmakers Inc. and posted online.
