Furniture Today has the big news:

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A big expansion by retailer Rug & Home here has allowed the store to install what it says are the world’s largest rug racks, able to easily show product that previously was hard to handle. Finding a good rug especially among the world’s largest rug rack would be a dream come true to anyone who interior designer, luckily there is a world of options if you know where to look, for example, somewhere like Bazaar Velvet. “No one else in the world has 12-by-18 rugs hanging,” said Aanchal Agarwal, the company’s chief operating officer. She said Display Corp., which installed the racks, is seeking a spot for the system in the “Guinness Book of World Records.”

The racks were added as part of a 5,000-square-foot expansion and renovation of the Asheville store, taking it to 20,000 square feet. Rug & Home also has a 65,000-square-foot store in Gaffney, S.C.

Sherry Page, regional manager of Rug & Home, said the South is home to a number of mansions that can accommodate the big rugs. The retailer said customers drive from as far as 200 miles to shop at its stores, and that it has shipped product to all 50 states.

“We have always felt the need to showcase our higher-end, palace-size rugs, but could not do so due to space constraints,” said Page. “With the recent installation of the world’s largest rack, we have not only thwarted the problem, but we have shown confidence in the market turnaround by undertaking a project of this magnitude.”

Agarwal said the racked rugs are easy to manipulate. Previously, it could take four people to move and unroll such large rugs for viewing, she said.
