Some of what’s going around:

-From the weekend: The Blue Ridge Roller Girls‘ season-ending bout was a big success, and they’ll keep rolling on next season. The Jar-e CD release party at the Lexington Avenue Brewery was packed out. Appalachia Rising at Bobo Gallery had so many dreadlocks that if you stretched them end to end, they’d reach to San Francisco – and back. How was Sufjan Stevens last night at the Thomas Wolfe?

-Parkway pix: Here’s a great flickr photo set of a snowy Blue Ridge Parkway. Photos by Ed Brenegar.

-Oldmstead film premiere: From the Asheville Citizen-Times:

Pack Square Conservancy is hosting the Asheville premiere of a new documentary about Frederick Law Olmsted — the landscape architect who designed the Biltmore Estate, as well as New York’s Central Park — with an event beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

“The Olmsted Legacy,” a one-hour documentary, examines the formation of America’s first great city parks in the late 19th century through the enigmatic eyes of Olmsted (1822-1903), the visionary urban planner.

The event will begin with a one-hour reception at the Blue Spiral Gallery, 38 Biltmore Ave., followed by the film premiere at neighboring Fine Arts Theatre. After the film, a panel discussion and Q&A will focus on the importance of urban parks, and the conservancies and foundations that work to protect and maintain them.

-Veteran’s Day: Thursday is Veterans Day. Take time to remember.

-LEED certified: The Hilton Asheville at Biltmore Park is officially LEED-certified. Is this the first LEED-certified building in Asheville? I know several other buildings are going for the certificate, but have not yet been granted it.

-White out: Johnny White, a football star at Asheville High School who is now playing at UNC Chapel Hill, suffered a season-ending injury Saturday against Florida State. The Asheville Citizen-Times has the full report.

-Taste of Compassion: The Animal Compassion Network is hosting its annual Taste of Compassion fundraiser Thursday at The Venue in downtown Asheville. The wine tasting and silent auction benefits the nonprofit’s programs promoting animal welfare, rescue and adoption, the Asheville Citizen-Times reports.

-Taste of Asheville: The big Taste of Asheville event of the Asheville Independent Restaurant Association is set for Nov. 18 at The Venue.

-PROM!: Prom! is Saturday at The Grey Eagle, featuring Floating Action, Kovacs and the Polar Bear and DJ Rob. One fun party.

-Studio stroll: The River Arts District Studio Stroll is this weekend. Always amazing.

The Southern Living Magazine Idea Home way up 63 has a Gold LEED certification. I believe it was the first or second LEED-certified residential building in NC.
