John Boyle over at the Asheville Citizen-Times says the Biltmore Square Mall is for sale. This comes after Ashvegas readers have been reporting to me that Steve & Barry’s is set to close.

The asking price for the mall is $37 million. Click here to see the property listing on the Divaris Real Estate Inc. web site.

Boyle said the Sbarro pizza joint at Biltmore Square Mall also recently closed. Sounds like there’s not much life left in the place right now.

I rather like the idea of putting the arena there. Accessible, easy-to-find location, and when the I-40 improvements are finished, traffic shouldn’t bottleneck too terribly much during events. However, we have to be sure to save Cinebarre somehow.

Good idea Bugg. Or move all county offices and the court house there.

The city should find the money to buy it and build the long wanted arena that would replace the civic center. Then the performance arts place could go downtown.

It is the perfect location for an upscale mall. I remember hearing a rumor about that at one time. Any way this area needs it. I know it might not be what the local folk want but it would bring jobs. Believe it or not, the really rich have not been hurt as bad as the middle class in this economy. The rich are still buying cars, and foreclosed home and the such.

Let get a High End retail mall on the map that will serve the wealthy in this area. It will help everyone in this area of all classes. Jobs are jobs.

I don’t know why people hate this mall. It’s so much more pleasant than the cave known as Asheville Mall – and no punks with their pants hanging off their ass!

Great place for a new race track. Right on the HWY with easy access. LOL
