Cincinnati.com likes Black Mountain:

A young family scrambles from store to store loaded down with dolls and a quilt. A young man struggles with an iron chandelier. Everyone ogles windows filled with chocolate. This is Black Mountain, N.C.

If you are seeking a pleasant day trip from Asheville or an even longer respite, this town is for you.

Fifteen minutes from Asheville, Black Mountain borders the Pisgah National Forest.

Panoramic vistas and breathtaking views provide the natural art, and within the historic walls of shop after shop, you will find manmade art of all sorts. Once the home of the liberal arts Black Mountain College, that free spirit continues to this day.

Resident Angelyn Gerwe Krauss describes the town as “the perfect combination of nature, art and people.”

Independent merchants and artists are on hand to demonstrate their craft, regale you with the history of the town or assist you with your shopping needs. On any given day you may see wood turning, painting, quilting, throwing pottery, and jewelry making. You could have something made specifically for you or your home.

Black Mountain Center for the Arts is located in the old City Hall (also in the downtown business district). Featuring a wonderful mix of gallery space, classes, theater, concerts and events, it has become a center for celebrating the arts and stimulating the mind.</blockquote
