Black Mountain News: California-based microbrewery looking to build bottling facility, restaurant in Black Mountain; would bring $120 million investment, 150 jobs

The Town of Black Mountain Board of Aldermen unanimously voted Monday night to approve a motion requesting an Interstate 40 interchange at Blue Ridge Road.

The motion requests the North Carolina Department of Transportation immediately reinstate the project as a “high-priority, funded project,” which a previous board of aldermen rejected several years ago. The aldermen cited a growing need for the interchange because of increased delivery truck traffic from the Ingles Markets, Inc. warehouse expansion on U.S. Highway 70. They also said a major company wanted to build a facility in Black Mountain, but wanted an interchange at Blue Ridge Road.

“The reason I’m supporting this is there’s a good chance we could get a manufacturer in there, a beverage facility, that could provide 100 to 150 good jobs, not just minimum wage, but good jobs,” alderman Mike Sobol said.

Mayor Carl Bartlett, who met with the company and NCDOT officials, did not want to name them on the record, but said they were a major microbrewery based in California that wanted an East Coast brewery, distribution center, and restaurant. The facility is expected to bring $120 million in investment and up to 200,000 visitors per year.

Pretty sure it's Sierra Nevada. Hear they are considering a piece of property just south of I-40 at Blue Ridge Rd. that used to be farm land for the Monte Vista Hotel.

Could be a number of possibilities, but it's been widely publicized that Sierra Nevada is looking for an eastern location.
