Word must have gotten out. They reworded the LEED reference on their website.
Advertising for the Glen Rock Depot has been a little misleading lately (radio ad and on their website). They claim to be "the first LEED-certified multi-use building in Asheville". They have not been awarded LEED certification and can not until after the building is complete and tested. The correct terminology should be that they are seeking LEED certification. Another project under way in downtown Asheville (The Altamont Theatre) is also seeking LEED certification (potentially LEED SILVER) and will potentially be completed before Glen Rock making it (if awarded) the first LEED-certified multi-use (it will have residential above) building in Asheville. You can’t claim LEED certification before being awarded it , which takes months after the project is completed.
MHO should be careful with their wording and claims. Green-washing (or LEED-washing here) could be bad press for them. That being said, I think this will be a great infill project and addition to Asheville.
The website for them is really cool!! This place sounds like it will really revitalize the River Arts District and add some appeal to the entire area. Hopefully it will kick up some good jobs for people too. Can’t wait till it opens!
Thanks, Ash, for showing this — the photos yesterday and today and the website link. Folks who are interested, please check out our Glen Rock Depot website and then feel free to give us a call ! Scott Dedman, Mountain Housing Opportunities (MHO)
