This is North Carolina’s copy of the Bill of Rights, one of 14 copies made by three federal clerks in 1789 of the proposed amendments to the U.S. Constitution. It’s now on display for public viewing at Ramsey Library on campus at UNCA. Sarah Koonts, head of the state archives and there on the left, slide the old parchment into its wooden cabinet, gave the glass a few swipes and declared, “You’re rights are clean.”

Check it out. There’s a fesitval on the UNCA quad with people dressed up and stuff, too, so the kids don’t get bored trying to find John Adams’ faded signature.
