Local band Uncle Mountain plays melodic folk and Americana, and over the years has played LAMAFest, Music on the Mountaintop and the All Go West Fest. Its most recent CD, Miles of Skyline, was released just last year. A good summation of the band from Mountain Xpress:
With all three members acting as contributing songwriters, Uncle Mountain offers an eclectic take on melodic folk rock that’s reminiscent of early ’70s outfits like Crosby, Stills and Nash.
And from the band’s ReverbNation page, a farewell:
Dearest Uncle Mountain fans,
Over the last few months at the Uncle Mountain cabin, we have been discussing the future of our band. We’ve been playing music together since our high-school days in the fall of 2001 – almost 11 years ago – and have had quite the go at it. We’re very proud of all we’ve experienced and accomplished together including some of the highest moments of fulfillment, excitement and satisfaction we can imagine. For many of these moments we have you to thank. You are our support and inspiration and we believe this whole heartedly.
This is why we must share with you that the three of us have agreed it’s time for a change.
We are still great friends. We collaborate musically and are still very intertwined in each other’s lives but we are putting a lid on Uncle Mountain. We aren’t throwing it away but we are calling it a finished idea, a statement that is complete – one we will no longer be expanding and defining.
In other words, the band will continually exist and we will always stand by the music we have made. Also, we aren’t ruling out the possibility of coming back together sometime in the future if the moment is right, but for now we have decided to go in different directions.
We have two final shows/celebrations in August that we would love for you to attend. The first is in Greenville, NC on Sunday August 5th at the Greenville Toyota Amphitheater from 7 – 9 pm. The second is at the Grey Eagle in Asheville, NC on Friday August 31st. You can purchase tickets for the Asheville show in advance by clicking here or by visiting the Grey Eagle or Harvest Records in Asheville. We highly suggest buying in advance because this show may sell out!
Thank you sincerely for all the support you have shown us over the years.
