Jamie McKay, an Asheville teen featured on MTV’s popular 16 and Pregnant show featuring teenaged baby mamas and daddies trying to work things out has made quite a splash on the internets. It turns out that Mckay was 17, not, during the taping of the show. And she’s in a legal battle with the baby’s father, Ryan McElrath, regarding visitation and such.

From The Faster Times:

Welcome to Asheville!–one of the country’s top arts and travel destinations. In 2002, Self Magazine labeled it the “Happiest City for Women.” This week we will see if that sentiment is true for Jamie who–not a girl, not yet a woman—looks pretty jolly for being seventeen and 34 weeks pregnant. (And yes, I did just quote Britney Spears. This is an MTV recap so deal with it.)

Jamie lives with her mother Aprille (who doesn’t look like one of the happiest women, I must say—maybe it’s because her name’s spelled wrong.) Jamie is halfway through her senior year of high school, dreams of pursuing a career as a radiation therapist, is on the student council, and is a straight-A student (clearly not in her sex education class.) According to Jamie, everyone was “a little shocked” when she started dating Ryan, this episodes’ baby daddy who has some whacked out Backstreet Boy facial hair and Eminem’s wardrobe. Ryan is known as a “big partier” and has already racked up a DUI, a revoked license and some court dates all before graduating High School.

From starcasm.net, which has the aftershow interview with McKay:

The third episode of Season 3 of 16 and Pregnant featured Jamie McKay, an even-keeled and intelligent girl from near Asheville, North Carolina whose attraction to bad boys leads to pregnancy and some serious baby daddy drama. During her episode we see her boyfriend and father of her child arriving for his daughter Miah’s birth after Jamie had already been in labor (and trying to contact him) for five hours.

Ryan appeared to be hung over and all Jamie could say was, “You smell like you had fun.” Things got worse when Jamie found out weeks later Ryan had been cheating on her the entire time – including the night she went into labor!

So is she still with Ryan or have they parted ways permanently? (We all know how these girls have a real soft spot for the father of their child, even if he is a super-douche.) Jamie sits down with Alaina Huffman and talks about her current relationship with Ryan and more in this MTV 16 and Pregnant After Show interview.

From TMZ:

Jamie McKay filed court docs in North Carolina … claiming 18-year-old Ryan McElrath is “not responsible and not in a position to provide a stable environment” for their 7-month-old daughter.

In the docs, Jamie claims Ryan has a “history of driving while under the influence of alcohol” and a “history of cocaine abuse” … and Jamie believes he’s been up to no good “even after the birth of the child.”

Stop being so judgmental, yes there are teenager that get pregnant in Asheville!! This girl doesn't live in the 'gutter.' She was a straight A student that made a bad decision. This show does not glamorize teenage pregnancy; it shows teenagers how hard it really is.

Ash please please please don't go there. There are so many other things going on in A'ville. Do yourself and all of your loyal readers a favor and stay out of the gutter.
    Thanks,

Ouch, where is her family protection? I feel these things are private and we as a society have lost our way in our pursuit of celebrity. Like our new parents are the media.

What a shining example for WNC.
