former_taqueria_gonzalez_building_2013Here’s the latest from Emily Bidwell, who posted the following story by Asheville Scene reporter Mackensy Lunsford, on the West Asheville Neighborhood Association page on Facebook page:

Anyone up for Cheffing?

Kanoo, the pan-Asian restaurant that was slated for 747 Haywood Road, will not open in that location. Another restaurant called Buffalo Nickel will take its place.

Brian Good, his father Tom and his business partner Lawrence Perkins, who also own the Asheville Sandwich Company, have shelved the Kanoo project for now to work on expanding their sandwich shop.

Good today said his concept just “wasn’t going to work in the space,” a two-level unit that previously housed Taqueria Gonzalez.

“We’re going to look for another space to open Kanoo,” Good said. He also said another location of Asheville Sandwich Company is in the works.

“Since we’re going to be opening another Asheville Sandwich Company first, Kanoo’s being tabled, for now,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lynn Foster, a local Realtor and an owner of the Haywood Road building, confirmed today that she’ll open a restaurant and bar there called Buffalo Nickel.

Foster is looking for a chef who might be able to put his or her stamp on the menu at Buffalo Nickel.

A second restaurant is reportedly going in next door to the Buffalo Nickel space; background here.

I wish they would just make the place nicer and bring back Taqueria Gonzalez, that place had the best tacos in town, I miss them dearly.

So, in place of Taqueria Gonzalez, or Kanoo, that space gets a restaurant run by a realtor who’s currently looking for a chef? Way to go, gentrification.
