Here’s the info, from occupyasheville.org, about a May 1 protest of working conditions in Asheville:
Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/342333302490249/
May 1st. Start at 4pm at Pack Square Park in Downtown Asheville.
Join workers all over the world in celebrating May Day!
Why Celebrate May Day?
* Because today we live in a country where profit and property are more sacred than the dignity of people.
* Because we live in a country where student loan debt has reached over $1,000,000,000,000 while wages and the economy stagnates.
* Because we live in a state where we can be fired at will and employees are denied the right to form a union.
* Because we live in a country that allows paramilitaries to kidnap and deport workers, breaking up families.
Now as in 1886 – when the international working people’s holiday of May Day began in this country in our struggle for the 8 hour day – workers need to stand as a community in resistance to corporatism and oppression. We need to rediscover our common cause as working people in our demands for dignity from the rich and powerful. On May 1st lest join workers all over the world and remind the bosses that they need us, we don’t need them
Workshops and tabling will begin in Pack Square Park at 4pm, followed by a rally with speeches and music at 4:30pm. The march will commence at 5:00pm, move through downtown and circle back to Pack Square for an open-air potluck and a celebration of spring. The march and rally are festive, family-friendly events, involving live performance, drumming and a brass band.
As a celebration of autonomy and empowerment, attendees are encouraged to bring a self-made flag or make one at the rally or Flag Making Workshop which will be 5pm, Sunday, April 29th Firestorm Cafe & Books 48 Commerce St. Asheville.
