pbr_cooler_scooter_2015_ashevilleSome of what’s going around:

-Celebrate Groundhog Day at the WNC Nature Center: Get out and see Nibbles.

-Buxton Hall BBQ breaks ground: Chef Elliott Moss announces the milestone on Instagram.

-Win a cooler scooter: Alex, Asheville’s PBR rep, relays info about a a Super Bowl party he’s involved in at The Southern:

It’s at the Dirty South Lounge at the Southern and starts at 5pm this Sunday.  In honor of Super Bowl 49, we’re doing 49 cent wings and 49 cent deviled eggs as well as $4.90 pitchers of PBR.  The kicker is that we’re holding a free raffle for the PBR cooler scooter with the winner announced at the conclusion of the game.  Any help in spreading the word would rule and of course  I’d owe you one.  PBRs on me next time we link up!

-Ben’s Tune-Up, Chinese New Year and Foothills: Here’s a fun announcement from the folks at Ben’s Tune-Up:

Come ring in the Year of the Goat with us at Ben’s Thursday February 19 from 5 pm till 2 am for our Second Annual Chinese New Year Party with music, sake, dinner, meats, wines, and more.

2015 is forecasted to be a year of harmony and peace. That’s something to celebrate as well as the release of Ben’s American Sake in bottles. Four varieties will be available; Ben’s American, pure and robust with no additives, known as Ben’s house sake ABV 18%. Ben’s Natural, unfiltered, milky and smooth ABV 14%. Session, a carbonated and easy drinking sake ABV 10%, and Lemon Ginger infused, also lightly carbonated. We’ll be offering up a festive traditionally inspired dinner buffet from 5pm till 11pm to pair with the sake and good times.

Local celebrities Hank West and the Smokin’ Hots put the swing back in swinger lounge from 7-9? Followed by Asheville’s own psychedelic surf rockers The Ouroboros Boys – imagine Link Wray with an electric mandolin – from 9- ? There will be a New Years Parade in there somewhere too…

Black Mountain’s Foothills Deli and Butchery will be holding an open house for their new Asheville location in Ben’s Penny Mart with fresh sausages, house made deli meats, and taylor cut butchery products. In tandem Tryon Distribution will be hosting a free wine tasting in the Penny from 5pm till 8pm.

Watch out, the dragon will be back too.

-The North Carolina sisterhood: A lot of folks have been sharing this New York Times story about the “food sisterhood” flourishing in the Tar Heel state. Jennifer Lapidus and Kim Thompson of Carolina Ground in Asheville, and Curate’s Katie Button, are featured prominently.

-Open Data Asheville: Lots of discussion around this topic recently.
