Here’s the blurb from ashevilleRAD.com. It’s great to have the fence come down, but I don’t know the significance beyond an aesthetic improvement; I don’t know if there are any plans to do anything with the building, for example:

Thanks to the efforts of the Asheville Area Riverfront Redevelopment Commission partnership, the City of Asheville, working with the Town of Woodfin are taking down a barrier on our riverfront. On Friday May 25, 2012, SCANA Energy deeded the building @ 14 Riverside Drive over to the City of Asheville. Woodfin Mayor Jerry Vehaun had expressed interest in re-using this fencing for a new auto impound yard. Following the announcement by Mayor Bellamy last night @ the Clingman Circle Celebration, Town of Woodfin employees, along with a landscape team provided by the COA, began the task of clearing the overgrowth & taking down the fence just in time for the Studio Stroll this weekend in the River Arts District.
