Dark fairies, sexy witches, monsters and more
A couple of Ashvegas pagans known as “Lady Passion” and “Diuvei” are putting out the word that “thousands” of pagans, witches and Christians from around the U.S. will be convening down in Fletcher for a big ol’ Witchfest on Halloween. The event is billed as a moonlit magical party called the Free Public Witch Ritual. [...]
Some things to do this weekend: woolly worms, lox and crafts
Go to the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands at the Ashvegas Civic Center. Shop early for Christmas presents. Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway. Saturday will be better than Sunday, weather wise. Eat lox and bagels on Sunday with the local Jewish Community at the Hard Lox Cafe event next to the Grove Arcade. Make [...]
Taylor-Shuler: What to watch for
Three weeks to go until decision day and things keep heating up. There’s a new poll out that shows Democratic challenger Heath Shuler up 8 points over U.S. Rep. Charles Taylor. We once again want to point out that these polls are pretty meaningless. Two years ago, challenger Patsy Keever had polls showing she was [...]
Notes from Maggie Lauterer’s political education
We just got finished watching The Political Education of Maggie Lauterer, so forgive us for re-living a bit of 1994. The masterful documentary brought back a lot of memories, and reminded us of a few lessons that may well resonate during this campaign season. Maggie Lauterer was a WLOSer held in high regard across these [...]
Rainbow connection
We caught this rainbow Monday morning. If you look closely, you can see that this was a “double rainbow” – there’s a faint second rainbow to the left of the big one. A pretty way to start the day, the week.
News, news, news
Celebrate the sisterhood Diva Darcel and Tallahasee Tammy Watford high-fived over the fact that both were wearing red suits on the air today. You GO, girls! Technical difficulties WLOSers had some agonizing technical difficulties with video during the news at 5. They got stuck on the same video for like five minutes. Owie. School rumors [...]

Sinkhole
The radio news is reporting that a 4- or 5-foot deep sinkhole has opened up on Hendersonville Road right in front of the Southforest Shopping Center. It’s also going to start raining pretty hard at some point today. Be careful out there!
More oldies but goodies from the WLOS vaults
This was “studio control” at the old WLOS Battle House location.
Wood carving exhibit
These wood carvers were set up at the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway on Sunday. There were some great pieces on display.
Sunday news tidbits
Traffic sucks With Russ Bowen at the anchor desk as usual, WLOSer Kassandra “Special K” Pride brought us a horrible lead story about a bunch of traffic wrecks on I-26 and I-40. The audio on Special K’s report was awful and she bungled her words a few times. Special K told us that a total [...]
More memory lane
Ken Bostic Kimberly Johnson Tammy Here’s more from the WLOS memory banks. Ken Bostic was the grumpiest weather guy ever. Kimberly Johnson was just sort of there. And here’s Tallassee Tammy Watford from, like, 12 years ago. My how time flies.
Tripping down memory lane
Brenda Young Diva Keith Taylor Syntax sent us an old pic of Diva Darcel and reminded us of the wonders of the internets. So we went looking and found a few more for a trip down memory lane. Brenda Burch was the morning anchor, best as we can remember. She had some babies and left [...]
