If you’re a hair stylist, massage therapist or an aesthetician looking to open your own small business in downtown Asheville, Elizabeth Mailander has a space for you.

Mailander herself is a small business owner (with her husband, Chris), in the form of Sola Salon Studios at 124 College Street in downtown Asheville. With the help of R.L. Stanley Architecture and Josh Hughey of Falcon Construction and Development, Mailander has renovated the second floor of a building that will soon be home to a new nightclub on the ground floor and a music school above.

The floor contains 25 individual studios and 29 chairs (four doubles that would allow two professionals to be in business together) and has been thoroughly renovated to offer soundproofing, HVAC, continuously running hot water and security for anyone interested in renting. The renovated floor includes several spaces that feature great views of Pack Square Park, as well as

Studio spaces start at $215 a week and go up from there.

From Mailander’s press release:

Mailander LLC today announces the opening of Asheville’s first Sola Salon Studios location on Pack Square. Located on the second floor of 124 College Street in downtown Asheville, the 5,800-square-foot salon overlooks the Pack Square green and the Visitor’s Center. This central, well-trafficked location offers studios for 25 independent salon businesses that can house as many as 29 salon professionals. Sola caters to hairdressers, skin professionals, nail stylists, make-up artists, massage therapists and other beauty specialists.

Sola Salon Studios offers established salon professionals the freedom and benefits of salon ownership without many of the risks associated with opening a traditional salon. Each private salon studio is fully appointed with luxurious, purpose-built cabinets and fixtures, a high-end styling chair and shampoo bowl, full-spectrum lighting and oversized mirrors. Sola is differentiated by allowing salon professionals who rent space the ability to design their own studios, manage their own hours and client bookings, set profit margins, use and offer to clients the products of their choosing, and enjoy other freedoms and benefits of salon ownership while leaving to Sola the management of the salon infrastructure.

“We are creating the opportunity for 25 new businesses to open in downtown Asheville,” said Elizabeth Mailander, owner. “Sola makes it possible for stylists and other beauty professionals to focus on their creativity, artistry and clients, while we focus on providing the professional environment they need to succeed. And we are located in a beautifully renovated building in downtown Asheville.”

Mailander has deep connections to Asheville. She grew up here and graduated from Roberson High School. Her mother, Gladys Brooks, was an assistant principal at Asheville High School for years. She and her husband were married in Asheville.

While Sola Salon Studios on Pack Square is locally owned and operated, it is part of a family of about 200 independently-owned Sola Salon Studios nationwide. Sola in Asheville is the 16th Sola to open in North Carolina.
