Here’s a meeting worth attending. The context: New Belgium Brewing is building a $174 million brewery on Craven Street just across the French Broad River from Asheville’s River Arts District; and Buncombe County next year is going to assign new property tax values to all property next year. It will be the first time since 2006, and we all know what’s happened with the housing market crash and the Great Recession and all.

So how will this all add up for the River Arts District? Here’s your sneak preview:

“What makes property values change?”

Property Tax Valuation 101 with
Gary Roberts, Buncombe County Tax Director

IN4M: Property Tax Valuation 101 is free and open to the public. It is especially relevant for business and property owners and renters in the River Arts District.

IN4M: Informational Series to Provide Education + Resources to Support Creative, Independent Commerce Begins in the RAD.

I’m all for New Belgium moving in and there are some fine art galleries located there, but I’m starting to get the feeling the River Arts area is overrated. I mean it’s not all that big and you can’t just walk to everything easily. Hopefully one day they will connect the dots but for now it’s overrated and hardly a tourist destination. Bring on the brewery tours.
