Rumor control: Trader Joe’s, Costco planning Asheville stores

| February 13, 2012 | Comments (3)

The rumor that Trader Joe’s is planning to open an Asheville store keeps coming back round every six months or so. Here’s the latest, from a Feb. 6 post on a FB page devoted to bringing Trader Joe’s to Asheville.

I heard a rumor this weekend that Trader Joe’s has chosen a location in Asheville, off Long Shoals Road at the entrance to Biltmore Park. I’m not sure if this person is reliable but they seemed very sure about this information. Anyone else heard this?

And here are a couple of good comments in response:

Harry Siegel: There is the old Shoney’s site that’s been cleared.

Kevin Jennings: Old Shoney’s is going to be medical office space. Linens ‘N’ Things is big; but can easily be subdivided. A PERFECT location, especially with Costco owning the land across the street and waiting for the economy to come back. We are getting there …

Jackie Itzkovitz: When I wrote them a couple of months back, the letter I received in return said there were no plans AT THAT TIME to have an Asheville store

Barbara Wooten: TJ’s and Costco on Airport road! Fabulous!

The large section of land next to CVS on Longshoals Road was being surveyed the other day. That usually means it is trading hands. Could it be a Trader Joes. Can’t see TJ going in next to World Market or Target since that Target will soon be adding the produce section just like the one in Asheville. Now as for Airport Road frontage property, that is another story with all that land sitting right there.

The Park Ridge land is across the street. God knows that dumpy gas station and old Shoneys needed to go. Now if they would do it in a timely manor.
