This scene gives you a little taste of how we spent a beautiful Saturday afternoon – splitting and stacking wood. Let us just say that we are sore and tired and ready for bed after about five hours of wrestling giant slices of an 80-year-old tree that had to go. It was a couple hundred feet tall and dying.

The guys with the chainsaws took it down no problem. The rest of us helped split wood with a splitter, then stack into the backs of pick-ups. Then we had to _un_load it. We counted about 13 or 14 pick-up truck loads of wood that we helped with. That is a lot of wood, my friends, and my back remembers every lift and carry and throw.

We won’t be doing much exercise for the next couple of days, that’s for damn sure.

You should have called! This is one of my favorite activities, so keep me in mind. Reminds me of growing up in NY, where we heated our uninsulated farm house with about 18 cord/year.
