Press release here:

Second Gear, West Asheville’s outdoor gear consignment shop at 444 Haywood Rd, has completed a major expansion project which has doubled the size of their sales floor.  A locally owned and operated business, Second Gear has been recycling lightly used kayaks, canoes, bicycles, outdoor clothing, hiking boots, and camping equipment since April of 2004.  The store will be holding a “Grand Re-Opening” celebration on Saturday April 2, 2011 from noon until 5pm. The event will feature food and drinks, special prices, and additional price reductions on merchandise.

In the seven years since opening their doors Second Gear has resold over forty thousand items, serving over 2,600 consignors.  In addition to providing affordable used outdoor gear, Second Gear also carries a selection of new items including guidebooks, maps, disc golf equipment, climbing gear, and an array of dealer samples at low prices.

The new expansion will offer both customers and consignors more of the same quality products in a more comfortable and organized space. Bicyclers, paddling enthusiasts, campers, hikers and disc golfers have come to appreciate the convenience and prices of Second Gear’s merchandise. The friendly staff of five employees (and one part-time dog) will be happy to assist you when buying or selling products that get you outdoors.

Conveniently located near the intersection of Haywood Rd. and I-240, Second Gear offers customers the opportunity to purchase quality gear without the heavy price-tag of other retail stores.  Additionally, consignors are always encouraged to bring in outdoor products in good condition to be sold in the store.  For consignment policies and full inventory details, please visit the website.
