Road dispute
Holly Headache brought us another story in an ongoing series WLOSers should call “useless road disputes,” Holly said people are arguing over fixing some road out in Leicester somewhere that affects 12 families. The angle is always that emergency vehicles can’t use the road because it’s so bad. Holly said the recent rains had damaged the private road. Somebody brought in a bulldozer to start fixing things up, but other neighbors stood in the dozer’s way and wouldn’t let it cross their prooperty. Whatever.

Remember Stonewall
Russ “Beefcake” Bowen gave us a brief history of the Stonewall Riots of 1969, a key moment for gay rights, then showed us video of a merry band of Ashvegas residents cavorting through the streets Sunday to commemorate the New York rebellion.

Tourists honor veterans
Veterans got to go to the Asheville Tourists baseball game for free on Sunday, all in honor of the Fourth of July. Manager Joe Mikulik remained in the stands, on suspension for last week’s tirade. Also spotted at the ballpark, U.S. Rep. Charles Taylor, who was working the crowd of veterans and anyone else who might vote for him.

Suspect suicide
Remember that case from a week or so ago about the guy wanted in connection with the robbery of a pharmacy in Weaverville? There was surveillance camera video of the guy. Then a day or two later, police said they identified the suspect as a Yancey County man. Well yesterday, Russ tell us that cops spotted the suspect Thursday night and chased the him down Highway 19. He ditched the car at one point and police had him cornered. He threatened police with a gun, then shot and killed himself. Russ attributed all this to Weaverville police. Sounds like an unusual story – not sure why it took so long for this info to come out…

re the Burnsville man who robbed the Weaverville CVS and then killed himself when cornered by the Weaverville police – i can’t remember who said it, but on last night’s 6 o’clock news, the report ending with something to the effect of ‘the man killed himself before surrendering to police’.

perhaps they meant that he killed himself instead of (not before) surrendering to the police.

am i the only person who heard this?

So people don’t want fire trucks or ambulances to have access to their homes? Does that make ANY sense?
