Habitat house is drug house
Spruce Pine officials charged five people with drug offenses. The people were living in a Habitat for Humanity house that police think the owner was renting out.

Con Met closing
Con Met, a manufacturer of plastic parts for the inside of tractor trailers, announced that it was closing its plant in Cashiers. The company is also laying off people at its Canton and Bryson City plants. The company blames a downturn in the trucking industry.

Note to WLOSers: the town of Cashiers is pronounced like it rhymes with “trashers” or “bashers.” It is not pronounced like a cashier found in the check-out at Ingles.
