Here’s an Ashvegas exclusive – we have a new celebrity to add to the list of those who call Ashvegas home. Doug Llewelyn, of The People’s Court.

You remember Llewelyn. He had the classic anchorman coiff. He’d talk to people coming in and out of court. He was the perfect set-up man for Judge Joseph Wapner. Remember Wapner? He grouchily presided over the court from 1981 to 93. Taped in New York City, the show ran for 2,484 episodes, then went to syndication for a few years. They handled all kinds of cases, from the personal to the mundane. The show made reality court TV shows a hot commodity.

Our confirmed sighting of Llewelyn came Tuesday night at Barnes & Noble, at the desk in the middle of the store. He said he was picking up books he’d called to order.

That led us to believe that Llewelyn lives in the area. We couldn’t find any property tax listing for him, but we did find a Doug Llewelyn Production Company with an Arden address.

So add Llewelyn to the list of our other local celebs: Andie MacDowell, Gladys Knight and Harry Anderson.

Ol’ Doug also appeared in Nirvana’s "In Bloom" video (long version).

    That’s some serious street cred.

DL was a customer of a place I formerly worked, in 2000, and they long timers there acted as if he had already been around a while.

Today’s Hendersonville Times-News (Sunday) has a good article about Doug in both print and online editions.

Sorry to go so far Off Topic, but I didn’t know where else to put this:

Cecil Bothwell has more to say about his firing from Mtn. X at his blog:

Did you make to Kenilworth for Holloween by any chance? They had some bangin’ pumpkins carved into amazingly intricate designs and I was looking for pics. . .

He lives right outside of the Naples area. I’ve been to his house in a business capacity. He’s been here longer than 6 months…more like 6 years!

Hmm. I’ve heard that he lives in Hendersonville. But that’s local enough. 🙂

I was more of a Rusty the Bailiff fan myself…

Back in 2000 or 2001 he hosted a benefit show at Hendersonville HS in conjunction with the Apple Festival and it was mentioned in the Times-News that he was a local resident.

Llewelyn’s been in the area for several years, in Henderson or Polk County, I think. Rumor has it he interviewed for an anchor job at the mighty 13 a few years back, wearing a Mickey Mouse leather jacket.

In January 2004, when Rosebud Video was still Segrof, I saw actor Will Patton renting some movies.

The lady behind the counter said he came in all the time.

I thought it was really cool at the time because I had only been here in Asheville for 5 months.
