If you’re at all concerned about the future of Asheville, you ought to think about coming out to tonight’s Tourism Town Hall meeting. Tourism is our region’s bread and butter, folks, and this meeting will give you the chance to speak your mind about marketing, tourism’s impact and tourism’s future in Asheville.

From the press release:

The Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority (BCTDA) wants to hear from the community as it puts together plans for the future.  Each meeting will begin with a brief presentation highlighting the mission of the BCTDA, marketing initiatives and the economic impact of tourism. Following the presentation, members of the BCTDA board, along with Asheville Convention & Visitors Bureau staff will answer questions from the public and hear suggestions and comments about the impact of tourism.

Get off the couch and get out tonight to this meeting.

The biggest issue facing tourism in Asheville is panhandlers and transients. In Asheville they like to call them homeless, but these people that number in the hundreds choose to be homeless and not be a part of society.

The real shame is all the free stuff these transients receive when the rightfully homeless families need it the most. You won’t find a homeless family at Prichard Park asking for your leftovers or some spare change.

Busloads of these panhandling transients are coming in from larger cities every week and it needs to stop.
