WLOS has the story:

The Unison Engine Components plant in Asheville announced that it cut about 50 hourly jobs at the beginning of the month.

Now 307 folks are employed there after those cuts.

In a press release the plant stated that the layoffs are necessary because of “lower volume and excess capacity in today’s market due to the challenges that the airline industry is facing.”

The Unison plant produces parts for jet engines.

I am surprised that the CT doesn’t even mention this story.
WLOS did a pretty good report (for them), and they included info about how the company had received tax break from both the City of Asheville, and Buncombe County as well as Federal monies which were supposed to create over 200 hundred new jobs (only 60 or so ever materialized).

They included that some of the money may have to be paid back with interest!
