It’s been two years since the hoopla hit over Asheville filmmaker Chusy Jardine’s independent movie, first dubbed Asheville, the Movie and then renamed Anywhere USA.

The movie won a special jury prize at Sundance in 2008. It’s gotten mostly positive reviews, but apparently the moviemakers never landed a distribution deal to get it widely seen.

Jardine shot the movie around Asheville, using non-actors. He really showed how an independent filmmaker can get the job done. It’s too bad that the general public in Asheville hasn’t had the chance to view his work.

The movie was shown in Asheville after it won the Sundance award. Jardine held a public screening of Anywhere USA at the Fine Arts Theatre in Asheville in October 2008. The event was a fund-raiser, so tickets cost $50, which got you a champagne reception and some talk time with the director. That cost was prohibitive for most folks.

How about a one-week run of Anywhere USA at an Asheville theater to show off Asheville and its artists. Isn’t it about time?

Maybe it didnt get distribution for a reason, just because it won a Sundance Award maybe the distributuers didnt want to loose money.

Did it get distribution? I’ve heard mixed things about that.

Would be great to finally see the movie after looking at the bumper stickers all these years… what’s he got to lose?

I have an idea for Chusy.

I’ll pay to let the Fine Arts theater show this movie for one showing.

Anyone that paid for a t-shirt can get in for free. I think many people that bought the shirt feel duped.

Let me know. I think it would be a great goodwill gesture for those that supported the film early on.
