The Western North Carolina Green Building Council has a lot going on the tonight and the rest of this week. Press release here:

The Western North Carolina Green Building Council (WNCGBC) proudly presents the Many Shades of Green Extravaganza, April 7 through April 10, 2010, in Asheville, NC. All events are open to the public, and most are free.

WNCGBC is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote environmentally sustainable and health-conscious building practices through community education. One of its primary outreach projects is the WNC Green Building Directory, which was first published in 2002 biannually and has been an annual publication since 2008.

The Council has celebrated the release of the Directory each year with the public, and this year, it is expanding the festivities to include Lectures and Tours.

The celebration continues with the 2010 WNC Green Building Directory Release Party on Thursday, April 8, from 6:30 pm to 9 pm at Pack Place. The 2009 event had approximately 300 attendees, and more are expected this year. Free and open to the public, the Party promotes the eco-friendly community in WNC by featuring an expo-like atmosphere that showcases businesses listed in the 2010 Directory. Light refreshments will be served, with all food and drink provided by local companies.

Friday, April 9 at 6 pm, BoBo’s Gallery hosts Asheville Green Drinks where Clarke Snell presents information about The Nauhaus Project and the whole systems approach to building design. These green building techniques can be seen on the Guided Tour the following day.

The final event is the Many Shades of Green Guided Bus or Bike Tour on Saturday, April 10, from 12 pm to 5 pm. This includes a guided bus tour or a bike tour.  Both groups travel to green homes and commercial buildings in Asheville to learn more about green building guidelines and practices in WNC. It is $25 per person for the guided bus tour; the bike tour is free. Pre-registration is required for both tours.

The public can visit www.wncgbc.org for more information about all the events and sign up for the tours.
