Word on the street: Half Moon Outfitters coming to Biltmore Village in Asheville

Got wind of this from a very reliable source. Half Moon Outfitters is opening a store in Biltmore Village (former Melting Point) location. Kind of funny how things play out full circle in Asheville. Dinner for the Earth (EarthFare) moves from Broadway and years later, Green Life opens their doors within the same block. Black Dome used to be in the same building where Compleat Naturalist currently hangs their shingle and now Half Moon is emerging next door.

Here’s another hint of the move. The outdoor retailer opened their first store in Charleston, SC in 1993. I believe the Biltmore Village location will be their 8th store and first in North Carolina.

Half Moon recently won the Sustainable Business of the Year and Retailer of the Year for the year 2011 by SNEWS® and Backpacker Magazine.

Let's see… Diamond Brand, Frugal Backpacker, Black Dome. Stalwarts of the Asheville of yore and still great outfitter shops.

Add to the mix REI, Dick's for the big box buyers. Another coming to the scene.

Maybe they need to lose money to help their bottom line.

Me? I buy for half or less on eBay.

It's great living on the flotsam of the US society. I live well that way.

Yep…all signs point to "yes" on this one. They have been eyeing the Village for a long time. I hope that they bring their eye and attention to sustainable design to that corner of the Southside. REI scored the Biltmore Park/Town Square, NOC is moving into Grove Park, Half Moon comes to Bitmore Village…all smart moves….follow the money.
