Word on the street: Zoe Rose restaurant in downtown Asheville is closed

| August 5, 2011 | Comments (10)

Word on the street is that the new Zoe Rose restaurant, which recently replaced the former Tingles Cafe, has closed.

Zoe Rose opened shortly after the July Fourth holiday in the space that Tingles Cafe had occupied on Broadway. But in a sudden and unusual move, Tingles was shut and Zoe Rose unceremoniously installed. They never even got a sign up.

The transition was never explained, except to say that Jack and Lesley Groetsch, who were involved in the ownership of Tingles Cafe, were suddenly out.

So we’ll see what happens next.

Sounds like the remaining partner was someone to never do business with…

  2. B says:

Zoe Rose state liquor license still owned by Tingles LLC and lists Jack & Lesley Groetsch as the managers.

That's too bad, yesterday I had seen an ad in the Mountain Xpress advertising $1 draft beers. Oh well.

While I usually don't promote ill will…the owner of Zoe Rose got his just deserts…

He screwed Jack and Leslie (they were business partners with the current owner) and now hes paying the price for it…they had a good thing going and then they got thrown out…and from what I know this is a series of failed attempts on the owner's part.

  5. SuckItMcGee says:

FYI, as we were going to Sazerac last night, Zoe Rose had about 10-14 people gathered around the bar drinking. Doesn't mean they were open, but people were in there.

Bring back Tingles! It was my favorite place to eat downtown.

  7. RG says:

It seemed pretty clear,Tingles wasn't given a chance. It was a very nice addition to Broadway. Jack and Leslie have a good track record and are committed to this community. The whole turnover seemed odd. I agree–bring back Tingles!

I don't think people realize how badly managed this place was. I worked there, and it was only a matter of time before the plug was pulled-I have never, in my 10 years of kitchen restaurant work, seen more clueless and abusive management by owners. Apparently, they have this town snowed in terms of their reputation. But the people who have actually worked for them know the truth, and none of us are surprised. Good riddance.

  9. Just Me says:

Good. I was hoping that place failed. I agree with #cool.

  10. Ricky Party says:

I feel there are a number of business owners in this town who have a rosy appearance on the outside but, behind the scenes, are actually socially retarded, incompetent pricks.
