Work has begun on a project to rehab several old buildings at the corner of Eagle and Market streets in downtown Asheville. The project, which will also include new construction, is a joint effort between Mountain Housing Opportunities and Eagle-Markets Streets Development Corp.

The Urban News has background here. Much more on this coming up.

This is an important milestone. Plans have been floated for years for some project that would rejuvenate this area, known as The Block, once a thriving hub of African-American businesses. It’s great to see work actually being done there.
